Zephaniah – BRF

I must say that I found this a difficult book to find truths that I could apply to myself personally.  I am sure that the Lord has some things for me to learn, butI just couldn’t seem to find them.

I do believe there is much for us to learn as a country.  If we don’t want to follow the Lord we will see God’s wrath and judgement as Judah did in chapter 1:14-18 , “The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and
gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.  And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.  Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.”
I wonder why we think God would not judge us today.  Do we think we are less wicked and deserving of His punishment for sin?   It’s time to wake out of our complacency and start truly serving a holy righteous God before it is too late.  God is so merciful, in chapter 2:3 He gives them time to repent“Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’S anger.”  It seems that we never learn from the things that we have been shown from the past.  We continue on our way to tempt a loving and merciful God.  I wonder how long our Lord is going to be longsuffering to our country as we see more and more ungodly laws passed that are contrary to His Word.  I believe as a Christian that I need to change some things in my life also.   I pray that I will not be blind to the things He wants to see changed in my life.

Chapter 3:17 – 20 are words of encouragment to end this book,“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden.  Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.  At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD.”  These are verses I  memorized as a new Christian and they encourage me each time I read them.  We truly serve a wonderful, gracious Lord.

I am looking forward to reading other reviews and see what I missed in this book that I can apply to my life.

Thanks again Shannon for choosing Books of the Bible that will cause me to search and think on His Word.  I’m sure Titus will give me lots to think about as well.

Until next time keep God as the center of your life “… for he is good; for his mercy
endureth for ever.”
I Chronicles 16:34

  1. Hi Barb. I finally had a minute to read your review. I know that most of the time I really do think I am less deserving of God’s punishment. I kind of get in the habit of thinking that since I am born again I’m safe and all is well. It’s books like this that are a wake up call. Thanks again for being there Barb! 🙂
