Romans 11-13

Again it is difficult to know where to start.  This book is so full of instruction and wisdom for our everyday lives.  I will share some things that were impressed upon me as I read.

First of  all I see that God has always had a remenant of His people, He has never completely cut them off.  It was Isreal (like me) that had the problem, we can see this in the Old Testament many times “For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his peopel.” ( I Samuel 12:22). Than God that He is merciful!

Next God did not cast Israel off so that He could bring the children of the Gentiles (us) in for His people, but because of israel’s unbelief  “… because of unbelief they (Israel) were broken off, and thou (Gentiles)standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off ( Romans 11:20-22).  God gives us fair warning not too think we are so good.  We need to have the right attitude toward our standing  and Israel’s fall, Israel is God’s choosen people and it is only by the mercy of God that we are saved (Jews or Gentiles).  God has made away for all to be saved Romans 8:32, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”  I  know I have much to learn and by God’s grace understand of God’s mercy and grace.  I am thankful for a longsuffering and patient heavenly Father.  Praise God that someday we will know and understand all things.

Chapter 12:1 is a command that I wish I could say that I am doing, ” I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”  I find that I am so selfish and caught up with my own plans and activities and wanting to do my own will, that I am far from obeying this Scripture.  Each time I read this verse I am convicted of the fact that I do very little for Christ  and He has done so much for me.  This flesh does not want to do what is right as we read in chapter 7.  I  will not be sorry whenthe constant fight with this flesh is over and I see my Saviour face to face even though I know that I will be bowing my head in shame. As the song says “I’ll Wish I had Given Him More” another song “It Will All Be Over Someday”.  WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE. Anything that I do for Christ will only be what I should do.  There isno glory that I can claim, the glory all belongs to God.

Chapter 12:19-21 Tells us not to avenge ourselves that it belongs to God and He will repay.  WOW!! this is a hard thing to do when we are offended by someone or something our natural thing to ddo is to “get even” or “I’ll show them”.  We rarely have all the facts, and sometimes we don’t even want to know them, we just want to justify ourselves.  God is just and He knows all the facts and is much more qualified to take care of th eproblem if we just leave it to Him.  He tells us to “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he
thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good”
vs. 20,21).  God’s ways are always right.

Chapter 13 As I read this chapter I could not help but think of how the things that HGod says to be done by our government and law makers are just the opposite in today’s world. Verses 3,4  give their responsibilties.  They are to rule justly, “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the word in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”  As we listen to the news or read the p[apers, there does not appear to be much justice in our system of law.. If these Scriptures were taken seriously by those in authority to punish the evi doers, those that commit crimes, have no regard for the lives of the innocent, or the property of others, we would be living in a safer world.  we woould not be locking our doors and making ourselves prisoners instead the crimanals are walking about freely.  I think that is enough of my opinion on this matter I do get very upset over the way things appear to be so unjustly dealt with.   Praise the Lord that He is in control and nothing takes Him by surprise.

That is my review for this time.  I trust that this book is an encouragement to you as much as it is to me.  I certainly can see the things that need to change in my life, now I just need to submit myself to God’s will because it will not be me but Him working in me.  We are told that in our flesh dwelling no good thing.

Until next time, keep smiling and serving our Lord.
