II Samuel 7-11

I just have a few thoughts to share from my reading this week that have helped me to understand David’s sin with Bathsheba.  I think there is a lesson for each one of us in this passage of Scripture.

I believe these are at least nine things that could have prevented this sin of David’s in chapter 11.

1.  v.1  David tarried — His men had gone to battle, he should have gone with them.

2.  v. 2   David looked on Bathsheba.   Bathsheba was not careful where she bathed. Ladies I think this is a   warning to us that we be careful how we conduct ourselves that we don’t cause a brother to fall.

3.  v. 3    David lusted – he was not content with the wives he had.  If we are not content with the things      God has given us,  we can also lust after things that are not good for us.  God knows better than we  what is best for us.

4.   v. 4    David committed adultry – he coveted another man’s wife. Bathsheba assisted David.  The Bible     doesn’t give any indication that she protested or tried to refuse David’s request to come to him.

5.   v. 5      David is told that Bathshebaa is with child.  Numbers 32:23 “…be sure your sin will find you out”

6.    v. 8    David makes a plan to cover his sin – he calls Uriah from the battle and encourages him to        spend the night with his wife.

7.  v. 9      David’s plan fails – Uriah does not go to his wife, but sleeps at the door of David’s house.

8.  v. 15    David devises another plan – he demands that Joab place Uriah in the midst of the battle where he would for sure be killed.

9.  v.24    David is guilty of murder- one sin led to another.  All because David tarried when he should have gone with his men, looked on another woman, lusted fot what was not his, and committed adultry with another man’s wife, tried to cover his sin, he finally ended up committing murder. This is a very sad account in the life of a man after God’s own heart.

A lesson for me in all of this is not to think that I can entertain sin and not get into deep trouble.  Proverbs 6:27 “Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?”   It also shows me that there is no sin that I can commit that God is not able to forgive when I come to Him in sincere repentance and ask His forgivness.  1John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Well that is all I have for this review.  I am looking forward to reading more reviews.

Until next time – keep looking to Him!!!  He alone is worthy to be praised.
